The National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) is an alliance of the provincial and territorial pharmacy regulatory authorities as well as the Canadian Forces Pharmacy Services. Their members regulate the practice of pharmacy in their respective jurisdictions in Canada and their primary mandate is protecting and serving the public interest. NAPRA has developed 3 sets of standards:
- Non-hazardous sterile preparations
- Hazardous sterile preparations and
- Non-sterile preparations.
It is recommended that your institution follow the NAPRA Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding of Hazardous Sterile Preparations and NAPRA Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding of Non-hazardous Sterile Preparations. These NAPRA standards are based upon United States Pharmacopeial (USP) <797> and USP <800> and have been adopted by the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP).
For more details, please refer to NAPRA and the OCP Compounding practice tool.
