7.3.2 Protocol-Specific Training

The principal investigators (PIs) of referring specialized childhood cancer programs are ultimately responsible for ensuring sufficient protocol-specific training is completed. Protocol training will be completed by the POGO Satellite Clinic Designated Satellite Investigator (DSI) as the responsible individual for oversight listed on the study delegation log.

For protocols that are likely to enroll a large number of POGO Satellite Program-eligible patients, such as those for children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the specialized childhood cancer program PIs may delegate POGO to administer the training and collect documentation of training completion on behalf of the specialized childhood cancer program.

Documentation of training will be forwarded by POGO to the specialized childhood cancer programs and stored in their local study files.

Training for patients with more rare diagnoses may be completed “Just in Time” prior to patient care at the POGO Satellite Clinic program to ensure the training is completed when most relevant to the DSI. PIs at the specialized childhood cancer program are responsible for ensuring this training is completed.

All protocol training should include information regarding the detection and reporting of any adverse events/significant adverse events detected to the specialized childhood cancer program. Pharmacy drug accountability, described in Sub-Section 7.8, should also be highlighted in this training.

Specialized childhood cancer program PIs will ensure that any study amendments are documented and shared with DSIs in a timely fashion.
