Research Opportunities in Proton Therapy Based on Benchmark Outcomes in Children with Localized Brain Tumors

Posted on February 5, 2013 by admin

Presentation Description: The role of radiation in the management of infant brain tumors is controversial.  The impact of conventional radiation therapy, prior to the advent of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and other variants of conformal radiation, was devastating.  In that context, proton beam therapy has been promulgated as a reasonable alternative. This presentation explored the outcomes for proton beam therapy at one of the first facilities available for children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Speaker:

Thomas Merchant, DO, PhD
Chief of Radiation Oncology
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN
