When is a Tummy Ache Just a Tummy Ache? What’s Different About Common Pediatric Symptoms in Oncology Patients?

Posted on February 7, 2013 by admin

Presentation Description: Complaints such as abdominal pain, headache, body pain and respiratory symptoms are common pediatric complaints. These presentations are equally, if not more, common in pediatric oncology patients. While pediatric oncology patients are ‘kids first’, kids’ cancer and its treatments means these common symptoms might suggest much more serious underlying problems. This interactive session reviewed and discussed some familiar pediatric presenting symptoms and highlighted some of the potential causes related to oncology therapy.

Speaker:

Paul Gibson, MD FRCPC
Staff Physician, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre, London ON
