Grand River Hospital POGO Satellite, Grand River Hospital Grounds Chalk Extravaganza
September 22nd
For the past 6 years, Kitchener Waterloo Collegiate (KCI) art students have decorated the Grand River Hospital grounds with inspirational graphics and messages for our kids in treatment at the POGO Satellite Clinic.

Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre Faith’s Footsteps
September 11th, 10 a.m.
Faith and her family wanted to give back after all the help they received, so they have prepared to walk from Emily Carr to Sarnia public school north end. A Nurse Case Manager will be walking on behalf of the pediatric oncology team at London Health Sciences Centre.

Heroes Circle Lunch and Learn
September 15th, 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.
The Heroes’ Circle teaches meditation, breathing and movement techniques found in the martial arts to empower children beyond the pain and trauma of childhood disease. Learn more about how this program can potentially be of assistance to your patients.

Gold Week
September 22th – 26th
Pediatric Oncology staff will be wearing gold all week, including POGO ribbons and t-shirts.

Pediatric Oncology Celebration
September 29th, 11:30 a.m.
Honorable Justice Stephen Goudge will join families, hospital staff, partners and volunteers in the Atrium for special presentations and a Kids Kicking Cancer demonstration. Cake and lunch to follow.

Pie in the Face Challenge

ChildCan is hosting this challenge to raise awareness of Childhood Cancer. A Nurse Case Manager and our Therapeutic Clown have already taken the challenge - watch it on video at

Southlake Regional Health Centre Teddy Bear Craft Day
September 18th, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Come into the clinic to decorate your own wooden teddy bear!

Gold Ribbon Awareness Day
September 19th, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Clinic staff will be handing out gold ribbons to promote awareness. There will be cupcakes!

Chalk Drawing Campaign
September 22nd – 30th
Write messages of hope and encouragement in the courtyard of the cancer centre.

Super Awesome Car Racing Day
September 22nd & 23rd, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Come decorate your own car, and race it down the track!

Face Painting Day

Acknowledgement of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the work that is done at the POGO Clinic will be included in the keynote speeches. Attendance is free and light refreshments will be served. Rally on Parliament Hill
Sunday, September 7th, 6 p.m.

Gather in front of the Peace Tower for a night of entertainment and watch Parliament Hill light up in gold for childhood cancer awareness. Featuring guest speakers, Monkey Rock Music, Rock the Arts Puppet and more.

Health Sciences North Celebration POGO Satellite Clinic at Health Sciences North Celebration
Thursday, September 11th, 10 a.m – 2 p.m.

Please join the POGO Satellite Clinic staff at Northeast Cancer Center at Health Sciences as we celebrate Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with cake and refreshments. Staff will be handing out gold ribbons and information about POGO and Childhood Cancer in the pediatric oncology clinic. Everyone is welcome.

SickKids Celebration
Tuesday, September 16th, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Join families, hospital staff and volunteers in the cafeteria area for lots of fun activities, including a giant memory card game, looking at cells through microscopes and a unique activity where kids can extract DNA from strawberries.

Rouge Valley Health System POGO Satellite Clinic at the Rouge Valley Health System
Toy Drive
Month of September

We will be holding a toy drive to support our treasure box, kids’ birthdays, end of treatment celebrations and our annual holiday party for pediatric cancer patients. If you'd like to help make a patient's day a little brighter by donating a new, unwrapped toy for a boy or girl, you can drop it off at one of the following locations: the Foundation office (first floor Court); the main security desk (Margaret Birch Wing entrance on the first floor); and on pediatrics (7th floor). The ages of our cancer patients range from infants to 17. Donations accepted from staff, visitors and community members.

Ceiling Tile Art Contest

Month of September

It can be scary for kids to come to the hospital. Staff can partake in a tile painting contest to spruce up the pediatric clinic area. This contest is open to all hospital staff and there will be a grand prize. If you're interested in taking part, please email Alex Frankel, before Wednesday September 10th.

PJ Dress Down Day

Thursday, September 18th

Children with cancer may often spend months or even years dressed in their pajamas as they undergo treatment for cancer. Hospital staff at both campuses can help to support young patients fighting cancer by dropping off a monetary or new, unwrapped toy donation and earning the privilege of wearing their pajamas to work (please obtain approval from your manager). All proceeds will go to the POGO Satellite Clinic. Donations can be dropped off at the pediatric unit or at the RVAP foundation office located on the first floor near the Harwood entrance.

Bake Sale and Community Awareness Day

Make your day a little sweeter! On Wednesday September 24th, the pediatrics unit will be having a bake sale in support of the POGO Satellite Clinic. Stop by the bake sale in the hospital lobby to pick up your treat and learn a little bit about childhood cancer.

Blood Donor Clinic Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Blood Donor Clinic
Thursday, September 18th, 4 p.m.
Grand River Hospital is a partner for life with Canadian Blood Services. On September 18, we are inviting hospital employees to donate blood and meet the families and children who have benefited from hospital services and/or blood donations. This event will take place at the Canadian Blood Services Clinic, Waterloo.

Waterloo Town Square Culture Days at the Waterloo Town Square, Uptown Waterloo
Saturday, September 27th 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
As part of Culture Days in Uptown Waterloo, Kitchener Waterloo Collegiate high school art students will be creating inspirational messages in chalk for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
