SAVTI (Successful Academic and Vocational Transition Initiative) is a joint venture between George Brown College (GBC) and the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) and closely affiliated with The Hospital for Sick Children (HSC). The program is aimed at student survivors of childhood cancer with academic challenges related to their disease/treatment history. It is focused on facilitating admission to existing vocational or academic programs, to enabling students to successfully complete these programs, and to get and hold jobs afterward. As part of this initiative, SAVTI has developed a list of resources that can assist student-survivors in planning for their future. SAVTI staff may help with this process at the student's request.
SAVTI Resources are listed in several ways:
Services By Type - lists the services alphabetically by typeGeographic Regions - information by provincial region
Government Services - services that are governmental
Province-wide Organizations - organizations that serve the province
Organizational Index - listed by the type of organization
Organizations Grouped By Service Type - this shows the services and what organizations fall under that service
In the future, SAVTI plans to evaluate survivor needs, develop unique programming where warranted, and to encourage the implementation of SAVTI type services and programs across the province of Ontario.
